I have been on a lot of mission trips over the past 6 years and once I got to college I really wanted to have an experience of my own. I love to help others and I like having an open mind toward other countries, so when I found out about Belize I was pumped to go! I have heard about it from friends on campus that went last year and they made it out to be an awesome trip. I expect to gain insight, knowledge, and hopes for Belize before I go as well as developing friendships with those in Team Belize and those that I meet/help in Belize. I've traveled a lot and I found out from experience that it is best to have a good grasp about the country and the people before you go. We are going to stand out like a sore thumb so I want to know as much as possible in order to prevent making a fool out of myself and 'Americans'. While there, I expect to broaden the knowledge, become one of the people of Belize, have fun, and put forth my best efforts and skills to get these people one more step out of poverty. I want team Belize to work together as partners and friends to get the job done and have a good experience! Everyone is good at something, so I know we can all bring all we've got to help Belize. Personally, I am good at working hard and effeciently, and I am good with my hands whether it be detail or digging some dirt (I get it from my dad). Also, I am good with people and working with others, so I can broaden my knowledge and respect for the Belizian people while getting to know them! One of the biggest things I try to keep in mind when in a different place is to be respectful of those around you and aware that we live a completely different life from those in Belize. While we are going there to help them, we can also learn a lot from them, so keep your eyes, ears, and hearts open to a new world.
I can't wait to get started and get warm:)
